Adults often look back on youth as a glorious time of opportunity. In adolescence though, the lens is pointed forward, not backward and instead of opportunity, kids see uncertainty. One way to help your teenager visualize forward 5 years, is for them to illustrate in words what he or she expects to encounter and how they believe they can best overcome obstacles to build the future they want. The links below are good examples of how writing a letter to yourself can cultivate self-awareness and define a path forward that removes some of that uncertainty.

Send it into their future so they can celebrate the person they’ve become through their own hard work.
